The Atravesado Group encourages members of the academic community at Texas A&M to submit essays reflecting on the experience of “diversity” writ large in their academic sphere–be it an academic department, among colleagues and peers, or in the classroom as a student or teacher.

Faculty, staff, undergraduates, and graduate students are all encouraged to participate. With the authors’ permission, the essays will be published within the English Department and possibly within other departments and/or as white papers for the University at large. The essays can be personal, creative, memo-like, or more formal in tone–whatever works best for your style and purpose. The goal of the Atravesado documents are to share your positive or negative experiences of “diversity” to encourage sharing, increase our sense of connection to one another, and raise awareness within university communities about the importance of diversity.

The papers should be in the spirit of the Atravesado series, which is designed to provide spaces and opportunities for collaborative and inclusive dialogue about diversity in academia.

Papers should be submitted by November 30th. For inquiries or to submit a paper, contact Laura Morris at lmorris107@tamu.edu.
